5 Gallon Challenge Rules
Who:
Adults and kiddos that are up to a moderate hike and one night camping.
What:
One evening, spend the night, wake up and have breakfast with some great people. Not exactly ultralight camping, but a bit more challenging that tent camping. Just a bucket worth of gear typically means no tent, no ground pad, no sleeping bag. Time to get creative.
When:
Friday, October 4, 2024 5pm to Saturday, October 5, 2024 11am
Where:
Elizabeth, Colorado- Hudick Ranch
Why:
To be direct...We are all way too soft. Challenge yourself and your kiddos to rough it a bit while having some fun.
How Much: FREE
RULES
USE A 5 GALLON BUCKET AS A MEASURING DEVICE ONLY WITH LID ON, OR LIMIT OF BUCKET, AS-IF IT HAD LID ON (NOT TO EXCEED THE TOP)
BUCKET DOES NOT GO WITH US (STAYS IN CAR)
AT TRAILHEAD WE EACH EMPTY OUR BUCKETS AND DESCRIBE WHAT WE CHOSE TO BRING, AND WHY
PACK INTO KNAPSACKS
HIKE IN (typically < 1 mile) AND SET UP CAMP
SET UP CAMP, RELAX FOR THE EVENING
IN THE MORNING, HAVE BREAKFAST, PACK UP AND HIKE OUT
SUGGESTED GEAR:
Layered Clothing appropriate for inclement weather (Does not need to be in bucket)
SHELTER: Cordage, tarp, piece of plastic film, etc)
SLEEPING SYSTEM: Waterproof bivvy, thin blanket, poncho, etc.
FOOD: Freeze dried meals, Snacks
FIRE: Small camp stove or fire starting supplies
WATER: Water bladder
KNAPSACK: Or small backpack that must also fit into bucket
